Originally built by the Canadian military in the 1950s for use by its personnel, the Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf Course has been open for public play
since the late 60s. For its entire existence it has been a 9 hole course, but 1996 marked a dramatic change to the course with the unveiling of 9 new holes. Designed by architect John A. Thompson of Regina, these new holes brought the total course length to over 6,400 yards.
Most noticeable on the new back 9 is the size of its greens which are much larger than the small, mostly level, greens on the front 9. Thompson also took care to preserve the somewhat marshy terrain which borders many of the holes at Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf Course . Home to a large number of migratory waterfowl, these marshy areas also provide a significant hazard for errant shots. Good shot making is also required to avoid the many well placed bunkers throughout the course.
An ideal course for novice and experienced golfer alike, Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf Course invites you to come out and experience its newly expanded layout. When you visit make sure to take advantage of the course’s large practice area.
