There’s something to be said for the pleasures of playing a country style course such as the Acme & District Golf Club. The pace is slower, players are more relaxed and strangers are always made to feel welcome. It’s golf as it was meant to be, and Acme’s fine course is an excellent example of just how accommodating country style golf can be.
Here golfers will find a 3,004 yard nine hole course with a gently rolling layout. A stream winds its way through the middle of the course, widening in places and coming into play on six holes. The contoured fairways are
of a bluegrass/fescue mix and favour the big hitter with generous landing areas and forgiving roughs. The newly installed grass greens are kept in good condition and hold most approach shots well.
While length is almost always rewarded off the tees (just pull out your driver and let it fly), the greens will require some precision to keep yourself in contention for par.
The biggest challenge on the course comes on the 4th hole, a 418 yard
par four where the stream remains in play the entire left side of the fairway, crossing it immediately in front of the green. The key here is a good, long shot off the tee to make your approach shot as short as possible. Whatever you do, make sure you use enough club for your second shot, for to come up short is almost guaranteed to land you in the water.
